My hero is Michelle Merrill, my mom.  She was a mother of 3, to myself, my older sister Kayla and your Man of the Year candidate, Jake Merrill.  She was an amazing mom, always putting others before herself, especially when it came to her kids.  She loved to travel and take us shopping and to the movies.  She was always filled with surprises - anything from what was for dinner, to random gifts just because it was a Monday - or when she surprised us by showing up at the end of the school day so we did not have to ride the bus.  She is my hero and my guardian angel.

My mom was my best friend and normally the only person at home when I would come back from school.  She was such a strong influence on my sarcastic demeanor and her rebellious spirit is apparent in my family and myself.  When I found out my mom was sick again, I felt like nothing would ever be right and knowing that she wouldn't be there to see me graduate high school was heartbreaking in itself.  I hope my campaign can help prevent this grief experienced and can improve the cure rate of blood cancers.
